Eagles girls drop opening game

The New Ulm Eagles girls hockey team played their first game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 12 against the Packers of South St. Paul at Doug Woog Arena. The Packers scored three goals in the first period and another in the third, handing the Eagles a 4-0 loss.

Lions Club Peace poster contest winner announced

Sixth grade student, Laylana Hoffmann, won the Sleepy Eye Lions Club Peace poster contest. This is a project of Lions clubs around the globe. Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. The theme of the contest was Lead with Compassion. Zeig sentenced to prison

In Brown County District Court on Oct. 31, 2022, Chad L. Zeig, formerly of Sleepy Eye, was sentenced to 45 months in prison, at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud, following conviction on three felony counts of possession of pornographic work involving minors; and sentenced to 48 months (stayed for 5 years) on one felony count of dissemination of pornographic work. Conditional release after confinement was set at five years.
