The headline is a bit of a play on words. In 2016 when the City of Sleepy Eye put together an arrangement with Ruhr Development to own, renovate and operate the hotel (now AmericInn) as part of the plan for the city’s new Sleepy Eye Event Center, the city purchased the existing hotel for $400,000. The ownership of the hotel was transferred to Sleepy Eye Lodging (Ruhr’s company created to own and operate the property) with repayment of the $400,000 due in five years. Because of the struggles of the pandemic year, the payment due date was extended a year.
The St. Mary’s Elementary Student Council held a Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Sleepy Eye Food Shelf on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Students, staff and parishioners brought their food to the front of church before Mass to emphasize that, when we help those in need, we are serving God and His people in a special way. The food collection came to 248.4 pounds.
