I think it might be a good omen for the Babe Ruth 100th Anniversary event that the forecast for Saturday is cool temperatures and a brisk north wind (adds to the cool factor). After all, when Babe Ruth played at the Sleepy Eye Ballpark on Oct. 16, 1922, it was unseasonably cool (actually cold, I guess).
I am going to explain a couple of different situations that have been popping up lately in this month’s article. I am going to talk about the legal side of this and the safety side as well. My goal is to educate and make these situations safer.
In a hilarious episode of the classic television series “Seinfeld,” Jerry is trying to have a healthy breakfast and accidentally squirts his grapefruit in the left eye of his friend, George Costanza (Jason Alexander). George goes around the entire day winking at the worst possible times when asked specific questions, causing people to think he is either covering up for someone or flirting.
This week is Fire Prevention Week and the Sleepy Eye Fire Department has provided opportunities to learn about and consider how you can keep your household safe from fire dangers. From kindergarten students touring the fire station, to elementary students receiving fire prevention learning materials, to all students participating in fire drills, to the entire community being invited to participate in Operation E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drill In The Home) on Wednesday evening, everyone has had the nudge to think about fire prevention.
With election day approaching, on Tuesday, Nov. 8, the Herald-Dispatch gave the candidates for Sleepy Eye City Council the opportunity to provide information to the voters. They were asked why they want to serve on the City Council and to comment on the top two or three issues the council will be or should be dealing with in the next few years.
The sale of edible cannabis products is legal in Minnesota, following action by the Minnesota Legislature at the very end of the last session. The law caught municipalities by surprise and the Sleepy Eye City Council and administration wants to determine the best way to manage such sales. At last month’s city council meeting the council heard from City Manager Bob Elston and City Attorney Alissa Groen that cities are allowed to place a 12-month moratorium on cannabis sales if the city does a study to determine the community impact of the sale of edible cannabis products. The city authorized a study at that time and held the first reading of the ordinance.

There are piles and piles of dry bones in a dusty valley. Then the bones are rattling, and rattling, and rattling. Then the bones begin connecting—in proper order, no less! And once the bones are connected, the flesh of muscle and tendons and cartilage assemble upon those once very dry bones. And finally, the bones, the muscles, and the blood, come to life with a supernatural breath.
