Kenneth Foss, 72, of New Ulm died on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at his home. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m.
For the past several weeks I’ve been curiously watching the various crews in my alley working to install Nuvera’s fiber connections to customers’ homes—from digging in the mains to boring through my yard (happening today). Anyone living in the north side of town, or driving through the neighborhoods, has surely seen the work also. I’ve been so curious that on more than a few occasions I have asked the workers to tell me what they’re doing. It finally occurred to me that some of our readers may also be curious. I came across this beautiful book, “Holy Moments” by Matthew Kelly and it really caught my attention. I asked myself, “What’s a holy moment?” This is Matthew Kelly’s definition of a holy moment: “A holy moment is a single moment in which we open ourselves to God. We make ourselves available to him. We set aside personal preference and self-interest, and for one moment we do what we prayerfully believe God is calling us to do.”
Mason Sellner of Sleepy Eye, a freshman at SMSU in Marshall, was elected by the student body to represent the first-year (freshmen) students in last week’s Homecoming week events as part of the Homecoming Royalty Court. Sellner is majoring in Social Sciences Education and is sponsored by Enactus.
The Sleepy Eye Fire Department was dispatched to Fairfax on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 4:50 a.m., to assist with a fire in the business district on Park Street S. Sleepy Eye Fire Chief Ron Zinniel said the department was asked first to bring the aerial (ladder) truck and around 5:30 a.m. the tanker truck was also dispatched.
United Way of the Brown County Area is gearing up to hold its annual Day of Caring on Saturday, Oct. 29. This event provides “helping hands” for our older residents who want to stay in their homes but need a little extra help to make that happen.
Several members of the Golden Rose Riders 4-H Club recently competed in the Minnesota 4-H Horse and Dog Shows. The State Horse Show was held Sept. 1619 and the State Dog Show was Sept. 24-25, both at the State Fairgrounds.
