Public invited to Local Work Group meeting on conservation

The Brown Soil and Water Conservation District and the Natural Resources Conservation Service office of Brown County are holding a Local Work Group meeting to seek community input on conservation priorities in our region. This annual meeting provides an opportunity for landowners and people with an interest in agriculture and conservation to review and provide input on local conservation practices and priorities for Brown County. The recommendations from this meeting will be shared with the Minnesota State Technical Committee of the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Mayor’s Message

Good fortune gave me the opportunity to attend the recent open house of the AmericInn hotel here in town. I was excited to learn of their plans going forward. The manager, Lacie Lampman, and staff spoke of a myriad of renovation plans that will be taking place over the next months. It seemed to me that they had just completed a total renovation so I was surprised to hear that they were planning more renovations and updates. In the course of our conversation, they also stated that this past quarter (three month period), was the most profitable the company has experienced. The hotel, well run as it is, is a great addition to the community. It’s good to hear that it is going well at AmericInn.

News from the Chief

We are approaching six months with our body cameras. I thought I would give an update with this technology and plans for the future. Like anything in technology these days, the cost is high. I can’t express enough how much value this brings to the Sleepy Eye Police Department and the City of Sleepy Eye. The value is not in dollars but in safety, peace of mind, trust, and emotional well-being.

Dahms and Torkelson to hold town meetings

State Senator Gary Dahms (R-Redwood Falls) and State Representative Paul Torkelson (R-Hanska) invite area residents to attend their joint town meetings on Thursday, June 16 in Sleepy Eye, New Ulm, Springfield, Lamberton, and Redwood Falls.”These meetings are an opportunity for constituents to receive an update on the recently concluded legislative session and ask questions,” said Senator Dahms. Representative Torkelson said, “We look forward to visiting our constituents.”
