More than 100 members of the Chicago & North Western Historical Society will gather in Mankato, May 19-22, for the society’s first in-person annual convention since 2019. The four-day event, “Rails & Rivers – Mankato 2022,” takes place at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in downtown Mankato.

Friday, May 5, the Indians split a doubleheader with the Springfield Tigers at Sleepy Eye Ball Park. Game 1: Tigers 2 Indians 1 (8 innings) Pitching: Jackson Huiras - 6 innings, 1 run, 6 hits, struck out 9.
The Indians softball team traveled to Springfield on Thursday, May 5 and split a doubleheader. Coach Sydney Geiger said overall they were two well-played softball games for both teams.
The Sleepy Eye United boys and girls golfers had a great week this past week. On Wednesday, May 4, SEU traveled to Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake for the first leg of the conference tournament. The Sleepy Eye United boys had their best scoring day of the year, shooting a 338 on their way to winning the first conference meet with a comfortable 20-stroke margin. Carson Erickson led SEU with a great even par round of 72, which was also first place individually among the 45 Tomahawk Conference golfers at the meet. Also contributing to the great overall team score were Jacob Schultz (83, 3rd overall), Kaleb Weiss (91, tied for 9th), and Sam Herzog (92, tied for 12th).
The St. Mary’s Knights baseball team played a doubleheader at Wabasso on Thursday, May 5 coming away with a split.
The River Valley Wildcats continue with great results in a variety of track events. The relay teams, made up of also successful sprinters and runners, consistently outrun their opponents, racking up the points for the team. Great jumping and throwing results also add the points that keep the team at the top in their meets.
Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths (TZD), an organization that was designed to study the causes of traffic fatalities and serious injuries, and work to pursue public support of traffic safety as a priority, hosted a seminar at Prairie’s Edge Casino and Resort in Granite Falls last week.
