A large crowd came out to enjoy another - the 7th annual - successful Caribbean Knight Party on Saturday, May 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic School. Live music by Sandra Lee and the Velvets provided entertainment along with games, drinks, good food, and a silent and live auction. Emma Schieffert is a senior at Sleepy Eye High School. During high school she’s played hockey volleyball and softball. Emma belongs to FFA, the Honor Society, and school newspaper staff. She volunteers with 4-H and teaches Sunday School at Trinity Lutheran Church. Emma works at Hy-Vee Bakery as a cake decorator.
Brown County Heartland Express will not operating on Sunday, May 29 or Monday, May 30 in honor of Memorial Day. Operations resume as normal on Tuesday, May 31. Any rides needed for Tuesday, May 31 need to be called into the office by 3 p.m. Friday, May 27 at 359-2717 or 800-707-2717.
The first summer youth activity is Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre, which will be hosted by Sleepy Eye Community Education, the week of May 30 to June 4. The residency was canceled for 2020 and 2021 but is returning this year.

Sleepy Eye’s traditional Memorial Day program will be held on Monday, May 30, starting with Flag Raising at Veterans Park in downtown Sleepy Eye at 9 a.m. From there, the program will move to St. Mary’s Cemetery for Flag Raising and Invocation. The next site is Home Cemetery for the full program with a Memorial Address by Anthony Sellner and placing of wreaths for veterans of the wars and placing of flags for comrades departed since last year.
The SEU boys and girls golf teams both came out on top at the third and final leg of the Tomahawk Conference Tournament on Monday, May 16. The boys swept their third of three conference meets on Monday with a score of 359, to beat all other scores by over 20 strokes.
2022 Seniors . . . Well, here you are about to graduate. I’m sure you’re pinching yourself at the prospect of reaching your goal of the last 12 years. I think of you all as caterpillars.
