The Tomahawk Conference Track and Field Meet was held in Sleepy Eye on Thursday, May 19. The River Valley Wildcats, the local team with athletes from Sleepy Eye, St. Mary’s, Springfield, and Cedar Mountain schools, did well but didn’t win the conference titles, with both girls and boys coming in second behind MVL.

Welcome back to my little world. It’s good to have you. Again, I need to tell you a little more about my life adventure as it is really worth the read. Many of you know, I am from Hawaii, and we have two boys, Kai age 22, and Andrew age 26. Andrew moved to the University of North Dakota to pursue a career in Aviation Science, he has since earned his wings in Commercial Aviation and now he pursuing more education. Kai is just finishing up his studies in Kinesiology at the University of Hawaii.

Seven games were played in the Tomahawk East League over the May 20-21 weekend, including a Sleepy Eye Indians’ 3-2 win over the Essig Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon in Essig. Matt Sellner got the win, pitching 8 innings, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs (1 earned) while striking out 5 batters.
St. Mary’s High School presented senior scholarships and awards at a program on Wednesday, May 18. Fifteen seniors were presented with Honor Cords at a program on May 11. Commencement for the St. Mary’s Class of 2022 is Sunday, May 29 at 2 p.m.
The St. Mary’s Chapter of the Minnesota Honor Society inducted new members Maya Nelson, John Miller, and Hannah Pelzel, at their induction ceremony on May 11. In order to be inducted, students need to demonstrate achievement in leadership, knowledge, service and character. This spring the Sleepy Eye Youth Trap Team competed in their third season. It was their first full eight week season without COVID restrictions. Weekly shoots were held on Sunday afternoons at the Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Club Trap Range. The Sportsmen’s Club is a sponsor of the team.
Tuesday, May 17, the Lady Knights played a non-conference game at Cleveland. After seeing Cleveland take an 8-4 lead in the fourth inning, the Knights came back in the next three innings to get the win.
Tuesday, May 17, the Indians baseball team got a big win at BLHS, getting the game in before the rain came down too hard, said Coach Aaron Nesvold. Indians 14 BLHS 3 in 5 innings Nick Mielke pitched 3 innings, 0 hits, 5 strikeouts.
