The Divine Mercy Area Faith Community consists of four parishes: St. Mary’s, Sleepy Eye; St. Michael’s, Morgan; St. Paul’s, Comfrey and Japanese Martyrs, Leavenworth. Since I report to the EDA Board each month on the activity of the EDA resources in use, I like to share that information periodically in my articles. This information includes two active Revolving Loan Fund accounts totaling over $66,000 that are current and being repaid to the EDA. There are 13 current EDA Rehab and Business Startup Fund accounts totaling over $149,000 that are current and being repaid to the EDA. Finally, in 2021 there were five Sign and Awning Grants awarded to local businesses totaling over $14,000. At the March meeting the EDA approved three more Business Rehab and Startup applications and two Sign and Awning applications. I will provide details on these current applications later in this article. As I mentioned in last months article, having these applications submitted to the EDA is an encouraging sign of interest and commitment to the revitalization our business district and the properties within it.
ECFE classes for the winter-spring are winding down—the 3 to 5-year-olds finish April 7, the toddlers on April 11 and the 2-year-olds on April 19. There is a special event for preschoolers and their dads or grandfathers or uncies on Friday, April 8, 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Sleepy Eye School Cafeteria. A science theme will be explored with some take-home activities to complete.
Nearly $25,000 was awarded throughout the state of Minnesota to projects that Minnesota 4-H club youth seek to pursue in partnership with supportive adults, local businesses, and non-profit organizations.
The River Valley Wildcats track team opened the season with an indoor meet at Minnesota State University, Mankato on Saturday afternoon, March 26. The Wildcats are made up of athletes from Sleepy Eye, St. Mary’s, Springfield and Cedar Mountain schools.
