Qui Vive Club

The GFWC Qui Vive Club met on March 3 at Lillian Stimpert’s home for a program on Education and Libraries. Lillian gave a report on the book,”Out of the Blue,” by Scott Thoma. There were tragedies involved, and a number of oddities showing the power of a tornado. The book is available at the Dyckman Free Library.

Sleepy Eye Public School News

Just a month ago, we had been in the midst of a COVID-19 Tsunami with both buildings experiencing high infection numbers. I am happy to report that things settled down here finally. Our numbers continued to go down and at this point we have no known cases in our buildings. Hopefully we are out of the woods and we do not have to pivot back again.

River Valley speakers continue to do well

Once again, the River Valley speech team competed in two tournaments this past week. On Monday, Feb. 28, the junior high speakers competed in the RTR junior high invitational in Tyler. Aubree Paplow, prose, and Lily Kallevig, extemporaneous reading, both earned first place champion titles in their categories. In humorous interpretation, Kali Nachreiner was second place runner-up, while Paige Schwarzrock placed sixth overall. Third place finishes went to Taya Beyer in extemporaneous reading, Leo Hovland and Lily Pingeon in duo, and Ayvah Wendt in prose. Overall, River Valley scored 30 team points, earning them the first-place team trophy. The team from MCC was a close second place with 28 team points, and the speakers from Fulda earned third place with 21 team points.
