France moves closer to banning veils in sports competitions

FRANCE – The French Senate has voted in favor of banning the wearing of headscarves in sports competitions, arguing that neutrality is a requirement on the field of play. The French upper legislative house voted late Tuesday in favor of amending a proposed law stipulating that the wearing “of conspicuous religious symbols is prohibited” to take part in events and competitions organized by sports federations.

From the Editor’s Desk

I think we need to take advantage of the lake to promote our town. I have lots of ideas for doing just that. In fact, if it weren't for hogs, I'd say our local celebration should be Sleepy Eye Lake Days! (But I am perfectly happy with anything pork.) Early childhood screening scheduled for Feb. 10

Independent School District 84 will be offering early childhood screening services to district residents on Thursday, Feb. 10 at Trinity Lutheran Church basement. Early childhood screening is not used to determine readiness for kindergarten but is designed to detect delays in specific areas early in a child’s development. We are working on plans to celebrate in some way throughout the year.

When she called me I told her to call the State Patrol and stay in the car until you arrived. What is the right procedure to follow when a driver ends up stuck in the ditch? Do you contact the towing company or is that the responsibility of the stuck driver?
