Sleepy Eye Area Foundation received word this week of an award in the amount of $3,000 through the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Program.
Grant funds were awarded for the Foundation’s application for National Register Nomination - Berg Hotel.
According to Judy Beech, “The funds will be used for the fee and research in writing the application for placement on the National Register for the Berg Hotel.”
The Foundation’s grant application stated a “need for historic significance for an anchor in downtown Sleepy Eye,” as the reason in applying for the grant.
The National Register’s Web Site explains that the National Register is the nation’s official list of cultural resources worthy of preservation. It is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect our historic and archeological resources. Properties listed in the Register include districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects that are significant in American history, architecture, archeology, engineering and culture.
