Don't even bother reading

In case you ignored the headline, please stop now. Your time is surely more valuable than reading my column this week.
You’re still reading? OK, here we go... But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Searching for a column idea... searching... searching... Let’s see, what is Jenny writing about this week? Her time on the road this past weekend. I didn’t really go anywhere over the weekend, so that’s not really an option.

And Doreen? Looks like she’s written about her passion for all things pheasant-related. I can honestly say I don’t really have any good bird stories, so that doesn’t help either...

Next stop, the national headlines. Let’s see if I can find any inspiration from the world outside Sleepy Eye. Looks like Toyota is still dealing with their recall situation and trying to salvage their image. My friendly tip: if you just buy cars that are old enough, most of the kinks are already worked out! At least that’s my strategy.

Then there’s the ever-present Tiger Woods who continues to make apologies for his scrupulous actions. I don’t have much to say on this matter except what I’m sure most people are thinking: enough already! Did anyone even care about golf before this all became public?

Well, I’m only half done with my column and have now exhausted national headlines and Sleepy Eye columns for ideas. What else could I write about? Let’s see, what’s been going on at work lately...

Progress.

Yep, that’s pretty much it.

As I’ve often told my coworkers in recent days, “We’ve been making lots of progress on Progress!” And yes, they groan and tell me to please stop.

But in all seriousness, our annual Progress edition is coming along quite nicely. Entitled “What Do You Know?”, this year’s Progress will be all about testing your Sleepy Eye knowledge. As far as actual stories, readers will get the chance to learn interesting facts about local businesses and organizations.

And this year we will be debuting some interactive elements in the form of crossword puzzles, multiple choice quizzes, matching games, and even a Sleepy Eye Mad Lib. Also new this year, Progress will be running in three sections with games in each section, but all the answers will be found in the last edition.

So in other words, you’ll want to keep reading each week. I think it will be worth your while. It might even make you smile. I sure hope it doesn’t all end up in your trash pile. Maybe it could even make it into some kind of file.

OK, I’m just going to stop now. Before it’s too late. Wait a minute... it already is...
