Arline A. (Adolphson) Mattson, 89, Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at her home. Funeral Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, on Saturday, March 6, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. The clergy was Pastor Keith Ainsley. Arline was born in Chokio Dec. 20,1920, to George and Frieda Adolphson. She graduated from Chokio High School and attended St. Cloud State Teachers College in St. Cloud, where she earned a two-year teaching certificate and taught in Stevens County and Morris for a short time. She met Conrad Mattson while teaching elementary education in Princeton and they were married Aug. 5, 1945. They moved to Sleepy Eye in 1956, after living in Le Sueur for about 10 years. She later returned to college and attended Mankato State College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in teaching and her Masters of Science degree in the field of Special Education. Arline taught in the remedial reading and learning disabilities program in Sleepy Eye Public Schools for 23 years before retiring in 1983. Arline loved gardening, traveling, singing and spending time with her family and friends. She loved God, had a strong faith and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was active in Circle for many years. She enjoyed participating in Sleepy Eye Women’s Club and Red Hats.
Arline is survived by her sons, Daniel Mattson, Oakland, Calif., Randall (Kathy) Mattson, Jordan, and Ross (Kathy) Mattson, Minneapolis; daughters, Carol (Mike) Francis, Waseca, and Rebecca (Ron) Kanengieter, Sioux Falls, S.D.; grandchildren, Erica (Jason) Bryan-Wegner, Nicole Bryan, Ruth Mattson (Noel Ferrick), Margaret Mattson (Marston Morgan), Benjamin Mattson, Joel Francis, Mariana Francis, Conrad Kanengieter, Tanya (Nicholas) Bethard and Gwen (Brad) Carlson; great-grandchildren, Eliana Bryan-Wegner and Nico Watkins; son-in-law, Rev. Thomas (Sara) Bryan; sisters, Dorothy Young, Jeannette Greiner, Laverne Williams and Margie Olson; brother, Earl Adolphson; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Arline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Conrad; daughter, Audrey Bryan; and sister, Georgia Brandt.
