James A. Heiling, 77, of Cobden, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018

Jim A. Heiling 77, of Cobden, died on Oct. 25, 2018, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be on Thursday, Nov. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye and will continue on Friday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m., at the church. Service will be held at t St. Michael's Catholic Church, Morgan, on Friday, Nov. 2, at 10:30 a.m. The clergy will be Father Andy Michels. Interment will be at the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Morgan. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Jim Alois Heiling was born on Feb. 26, 1941 in Redwood County, to Alois and Evelyn (Heiderscheidt) Heiling. He grew up in Morgan and attended St. Michael's School in Morgan. He was self employed in construction for 40 years, retiring in 2002. Jim was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Morgan where he donated many hours of his time. He was a member of Catholic Aid and served as mayor of Cobden. He mowed most of the grass in Cobden every summer. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his siblings and friends. Jim especially enjoyed playing cards and shaking dice with friends at the Ridin High Saloon.

He is survived by siblings: Jean Gareis of New Ulm, Jack Heiling of Morgan, Judy (Jerry) Huiras of Morgan; sister-in-law, Deb Heiling of Morgan; nieces and nephews and many friends, especially Dennis "Peanut" Utz and Shawn Renwick. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jan (George) Mohlenbrock, brother, Joe Heiling and brother-in-law, Elmer Gareis.
