Cordella M Soukup, 94, of Sleepy Eye, died on Oct. 27, 2018, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the Divine Providence Community Chapel. Service will be held at the Divine Providence Community Chapel on Wednesday at 10:30 am. The clergy will be Msgr. John Richter and Msgr. Eugene Lozinski. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. Cordella was born on Feb. 1, 1924 in the Soukup farmhouse in rural Sleepy Eye to Charles and Amelia (Ruffing) Soukup, sharing her birthday with her fraternal twin, Adele. Cordella attended District #27 Country School in rural Sleepy Eye and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Sleepy Eye in 1942. After graduation, Cordella made her home in St. Paul and had a long career working for the Federal Land Bank. She returned to Sleepy Eye after retirement to be close to family. Cordella enjoyed crocheting and traveling. She found a hidden talent for painting during her years at Divine Providence. She was deeply committed to her church and faith and held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews.
Cordella is survived by her sister, Joan Portner of Sleepy Eye; nieces and nephews: Nancy (John) Wolf, Joyce (Bill) Kuehn, Cindy (Keith) Scheid, Dean (Stacy) Goblirsch, Thomas (Mary) Portner, and Mark (Lisa) Portner; great nieces and nephews: Jayson (Kaitlyn) Wolf, Megan and Noah Scheid, Kyle and Kayla Goblirsch, Boston, Sabrina, Isabella, Crystal, and Sophia Portner, Rachel, Jared, Dustin and Blake Portner. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gregory Soukup, twin sister, Adele Goblirsch, brothers-in-law, Edwin Goblirsch and Harold Portner, and nephew, Thomas Goblirsch.
