Lewis “Louie” J. Seifert, 82, of New Ulm, died Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2018 at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Burial will follow at New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to10a.m. Monday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Seifert was born on Oct. 16, 1935 in Sleepy Eye to Arthur and Dolores (Ludewig) Seifert. He attended country school in Iberia. On May 31, 1961 Louie was united in marriage to Arlene Berg at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. He was employed at Schell’s Brewery for 37 years, twenty of which he spent working in the cellar, and seventeen as head brewer. Louie retired from Schell’s in 1997. He also co-owned the Seifert Uptown Tavern for several years with his brother Marvin. Louie was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, where he also served as an usher, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and Catholic United. Louie enjoyed gardening, canning and preparing his fruits. He also liked cooking and making desserts for many family events. People would wait in line for his banana dessert. Louie was a loving grandfather who enjoyed time with all of his grandkids, even if it was just over the phone. He was a dedicated and loving caregiver to his wife Arlene for 57 years.
Louie is survived by his wife, Arlene; his sons: Robert (DottiJo) Seifert of Park Rapids and Ronald (Sheila) Seifert of Janesville; five grandchildren: Elizabeth, Whitney, and Benjamin Seifert, Jarred Preston, and Andrea (Alex) Moen; three: great grandchildren, Ethan and Carson Preston, Reid Moen; sisters: Viola (Dennis) Leff, Teresa (James) Wenish, Marie (Gary) Hoffmann, Martha (Richard) Anderson, Monica (Larry) Clayton; brothers: Marvin (Janice) Seifert, Lowell (Mary Ann) Seifert, Gerald Seifert, Michael (Linda) Seifert; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother in infancy.
