Leona Hacker, 90 of New Ulm died peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New UIm. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 26, at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Burial will follow in New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be from 9 to11 a.m., on Saturday at the church. Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes of New Ulm have been trusted with the arrangements. Leona Margaret Weiss was born April 20, 1928 in Sleepy Eye to William and Sophia (Sellner) Weiss. She was a 1946 graduate from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Sleepy Eye, and later attained her beautician’s license in Mankato. Leona was united in marriage to James A. Hacker at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. This union blessed the couple with a son and a daughter whom together they raised in New Ulm. Leona was a devout member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm where in the past, was an active volunteer with the church. Leona was also a member of the New Ulm American Legion Auxiliary. Leona is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Gary) Davis of Mendota Heights; her son, John (Nancy) Hacker of New Ulm; grandchildren: Danielle Hacker of Shakopee, Ashley Hacker of Minneapolis, Connor Davis of St. Paul, Tyler Davis of Chicago, Illinois; and great-granddaughter, Abby Davis of St. Paul. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James A. Hacker; and sisters: Arlene Machtemes, and Bernice Seifert.
