Redwood Falls businessman, Gary Dahms, is announcing his bid for the Minnesota Senate District 21 seat. Dennis Frederickson, the current office holder, has announced that he will not seek re-election this fall. Dahms says, “Frederickson will be missed. He has worked tirelessly for the district and has been a strong, consistent, and effective voice for the values we believe in.”
Dahms has owned and operated Dahms Insurance Agency for 24 years. Dahms also serves as a Redwood County Commissioner representing the 5th District. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and a participant in the Blandin Community Leadership Program. Gary and Barb have been married for 36 years and have 2 children, Michelle (Byron) Pike and Michael. Barb has been a licensed insurance agent for 23 years and works with Gary at the agency.
Dahms will draw on a broad base of experience serving on several boards in various capacities, including the Redwood Area Education Foundation; Redwood County Agricultural Society; Redwood Area FFA Alumni Association; Redwood County Extension Committee; Redwood Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Board; Redwood Area Development Corporation; Redwood County Economic Development Association; Redwood County Soil and Water Conservation District; Southwest Minnesota Regional Development Commission; Minnesota Valley Rail Authority; Service Enterprises Inc.; and Redwood/Renville Health Services Board.
When asked why he is running Dahms states, “I want to represent the people of this district because I believe that rural Minnesota needs a strong voice in our legislature, and I know that decisions made in St. Paul will have a major impact on our future. I have been actively engaged in issues involving agriculture, economic development, environment, education and health care. Now, guided by my values, I am ready to apply my broad experience to represent District 21 in the Minnesota Senate.”
