Sleepy Eye, Minn. -

By popular request, Sleepy Eye now has its very own Farmer’s Market.
The first Sleepy Eye Farmer’s Market opens Monday, July 13 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., in the Sleepy Eye City Building parking lot and will run each Monday through October.
Sponsored by the Sleepy Eye Retail Association, the market is open to local growers looking to sell their produce in a location on Main Street that is both convenient and visible to potential shoppers.
Chamber Director Julie Schmitt said she is excited about the Farmer’s Market. “We’ve had calls from people asking when it will be open,” Schmitt said. “Interest from the community for the Farmer’s Market has been high.”
Schmitt said the retail association decided to open a Farmer’s Market after receiving a number of requests last year. “We decided if we could get it off the ground, we would give it a try.”
According to Schmitt, the Sleepy Eye Farmer’s Market will be geared toward the sale of basic, home-grown, fresh out-of-the garden type products. “We are trying to stay away from vendors selling products like meat.”
Anyone interested in selling produce at the Farmer’s Market can stop by the Chamber of Commerce office at 115 Second Avenue Northeast to pick up a brochure that includes information about being a vendor, the vendor form and state rules and regulations about farmer’s markets and the sale of certain products.
A $10 fee is charged on a weekly basis to vendors setting up for the market. The fee is payable at the Chamber of Commerce office.
Vendors are asked to provide their own set-up equipment.
