The Sleepy Eye Sportsman’s Club will hold their 30th annual Fishing Derby on Sunday, Feb. 5, from 12-3 p.m. at Sportsman’s Park on the north side of Sleepy Eye Lake.

The Sportsman’s Club moved the derby to the north side of the lake this year when it was questionable a couple of weeks ago whether or not the contest could be held due to warmer temperatures.

This past Saturday members of the Sportsman’s Club measured the ice and found it to be up to 12 inches thick on the north side.
“It is progressing well. We are fairly certain fishing will take place,” said Sportsman’s Club member Lynn Krenz.

Four cash prizes will be awarded in two categories during the fishing tournament. The day’s events also include a general raffle, fish registration door prizes and a large raffle. Every registered fishermen gets an entry into the drawing for door prizes.

The large raffle will include a portable fish house, a power ice auger, wildlife prints, cash, gift certificates and many other large prizes.
Raffle tickets will be available for purchase before and during the contest.

Food and refreshments will be available throughout the derby. Proceeds go to area projects and organizations.
