In a lengthy discussion at the Sleepy Eye Public School Board regular meeting held Wednesday, May 9, the board ultimately decided to go with Taher, Inc., as the food service provider for the district for the 2012-13 school year.

The Wanda Gag grant has found an instructor, Marilyn Lieske, for Pick a Path – Make a Game! The class will be held June 4-7, 9:30-10:45 a.m., for ages 6-12 at Sleepy Eye High School – Room 134. Youth will design, construct and decorate a board game and then make a box to store it in. The games will be displayed at the Dyckman Free Library for one week following class. Materials are provided.

Courtney: At Sleepy Eye Public School, Courtney is involved in Mock Trial, Knowledge Bowl, Book Club, National Honor Society, editor of the Sleepy Eye High School online newspaper, president of the Art Club and member of the scheduling committee.
Greg Tennant is starting his second week of retirement from the National Resources Conservation Service and he says the biggest adjustment is getting out of the mind set that he has to prepare for work the following day.
The 2012 theme for the annual Brown Soil & Water Conservation District Poster Contest was “Trees—Rooted in Our Future”. This year’s theme focused on Minnesota’s trees and how they relate to our environmental, economic, and aesthetic future.
It’s great to have a special day reserved for celebrating and honoring mothers! At the very least, if it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t be here! Having one day to honor them just doesn’t seem enough though, but it’s a start!
Wednesday, May 2, Sleepy Eye High School held its awards banquet for graduating seniors. Area businesses and organizations presented awards and scholarships during the ceremony. At the end of the night, students who earned a 3.0 GPA or higher were honored with gold cords.

Registration for youth summer activities was held on Monday evening. There may still be openings for some activities so if you were unable to attend, please call and check on availability. The brochure and registration form has been added to our website page. The first activities will be Children’s Theatre with Prairie Fire staff the week of June 4. We received a grant from Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council to help with the expenses of this production.
