Do you have strings of holiday lights that no longer work? Don’t throw them away — they can be recycled.

Do you have strings of holiday lights that no longer work? Don’t throw them away — they can be recycled.

Once again this holiday season, the Sleepy Eye YES! Team (Youth Eco Solutions) is coordinating the collection of holiday lights, under the slogan “Recycle your Holidays.” Sleepy Eye’s community collection will go to Jobs Plus, Inc. in Waseca, which provides jobs for adults with special needs. The lights are dismantled there and then recycled through a facility in the Twin Cities.

The collection of holiday lights will run through Jan. 20 in Sleepy Eye. There are drop boxes at McCabe’s Ace Hardware, Schutz Family Foods, St. Mary’s Church and School, Sleepy Eye Public School, Trinity Lutheran Church, and Brown County REA.
