FFA Members of the Month for September are Jake Price, Leslie Martinez and Matthew Sellner. Officer of the month is Edwin Flores.

Jake Price is an eighth grader at Sleepy Eye Public School and has been in FFA for two years. He joined FFA because he wanted to become involved in agriculture and he wanted to meet new people. Jake is on the Fish and Wildlife CDE team and his favorite part is learning about new animals he’s never heard of before. Jake’s SAE is mowing lawns for different people.

Jake’s favorite FFA activity is trapshooting. Jake is really looking forward to going to Timberland Camp this summer. By being in FFA and Ag. class, Jake has learned a lot about animals like cows, pigs, horses, goats, and chickens. He is most proud of getting first place as a team at Regionals for Fish and Wildlife.

Leslie Martinez is a senior at Sleepy Eye Public School and has been in FFA for six years. She joined FFA because she had always wanted to join FFA as well as be on a CDE team. Leslie is on the Milk Quality CDE team and she likes it because she gets to drink Half and Half.

Leslie’s favorite FFA activities are the dances. Leslie is looking forward to making it to Nationals for Milk Quality. Leslie has learned many things from being in FFA and Ag. class, especially how to be more confident and how to make new friends. She is most proud of getting first place at Regionals and fifth place at State Convention for Milk Quality.

Matthew Sellner is a junior at Sleepy Eye Public School and has been in FFA for three years. He joined FFA to learn more about agriculture and to participate in CDE teams, like Fish and Wildlife and Trapshooting. Matthew is on the Fish and Wildlife CDE team and likes it because he knows a lot about the subject and he sees a lot of the animals he evaluates in nature. Matthew’s SAE involves him working at Schutz Family Foods where he bags groceries. He also worked at Mark Thomas where he was summer help.

Matthew’s favorite FFA activity is State Convention. Matthew would like to attend Timberland Camp or maybe become an FFA officer next year. From FFA and Ag. class, he has learned how to cook certain foods and how foods are processed for consumption. Matthew is most proud of being Member of the Month, getting first place at Regionals for Fish and Wildlife, and being a Greenhand Degree recipient.

Edwin Flores is a junior at Sleepy Eye Public School and has been in FFA for five years. He joined FFA because he wanted to experience something new and it also sounded like a lot of fun. Edwin is one of the Chapter’s Student Advisors this year. He likes his officer position because he likes working with the Jr. Officer Team and also likes contributing his ideas toward the entire Officer Team.

Edwin is on the Forestry CDE team and likes to discover so many new things involving trees. He also likes that he has a chance to go to State Convention by being on Forestry. His favorite FFA activity is the FFA Lock-In. Edwin is most looking forward to the Region Volleyball Tournament this year. He has learned many things by being in FFA and Ag. class, including that to have a good team, you need good communication and teamwork. Edwin is most proud of getting the Phoenix Award.
