School year off to a good start.

At the Sept. 12 District 84 Board of Education meeting Superintendent John Cselovszki told the board that the start of the school year went well. He reported current enrollment numbers at PreK: 36, K-6: 326, 7-12: 254 plus 37 students from St. Mary’s taking courses. Cselovszki said the numbers include 30-plus migrant students who will be leaving the district, but state funding is received for the time they are at the school.

Cselovszki said the school will participate in a Sleepy Eye wide crisis team (police, fire, ambulance, SEMC) Active Shooter Drill the evening of Nov. 14, with the gym being used. He said volunteers are needed for various roles in the drill.

Cselovszki also reported that the PL (personalized learning) for grades 2-4 is off to a good start, with parents and students saying they like it. He will invite staff and students to report to the board, perhaps in a few months.

Abby Grove, new Food Service Director, was at the meeting and asked the board to contact her with any questions.
