It's time to file for school board and city council positions.

While state and county attention is focused on the Aug. 14 primary election, local voters should also be aware of offices that will appear on the general election ballot on Nov. 6.

For Sleepy Eye voters, there will be three city council positions on the ballot. These are four terms for Councilor-First Ward, currently held by Doug Pelzel; Councilor-Second Ward, currently held by Richard Zinniel; and Councilor at Large, currently held by Nathan Stevermer. All three have filed for re-election and Gary Windschitl has also filed for the second ward seat.

For Sleepy Eye school district voters, there will be four school board positions on the ballot. Current board members whose terms are expiring include Casey Coulson, Sheila Wurtzberger, Bryan Sellner and Brian Nelson. As of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Wurtzberger and Sellner had filed for office.

The filing period for these local offices closes at 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13. Those wishing to file as a candidate for office should go to the respective office—city or school district. For more information call the city office at 794-3731 or the school district office at 794-7903.
