Once again, summer has flown by and August is here.
Once again, summer has flown by and August is here. We are currently in the midst of our third and final session of lessons. Our morning and evening aerobics classes have been in full swing, with the final date of those classes being Aug. 16. There is one more night swim—Aug. 15 from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. Bring your floaties and pool toys! Finally, our last day of swimming at SEFAC will be Aug. 19. Our hours on the 18th and 19th will be from 1 to 5 p.m.; this is due to the Corn Days Parade and needing time to get everything cleaned up, packed up, and closed up for the end of season before school starts the next day.
As this pool season and my time as manager comes to a close, there are many people I would like to thank. Our vendors were and always have been wonderful, the staff at the city office for all that they do, those who work in the parks department and do so much to make sure the pool is always swimmable, and my lifeguards. You, as lifeguards, signed on for an important task, but when push came to shove you really proved yourself and your dedication this summer. You rolled with my changes to the pool and made every day interesting and unique—each of you, with your own personalities and quirks. For those of you that I won't see when school starts, I hope that you continue to come back to SEFAC. If it's not to work, because you are moving on to new phases of your life, then at least to visit the place that so many practically call home in the summer. I wish all of you the best.
Last, but not least, I need to give my final thanks to those who have enjoyed the water, watched, or supported our facility in other ways. My individual interactions with each of you as the manager have changed me as much as I have had impact on the pool. It is said time and again, that we would not be able to stay open if it weren't for you. I am so blessed to have been able to move to Sleepy Eye and experience a community like this one. As I start my own family, it is my hope that our children can someday love this city and its people as much as I do. I sincerely hope that you enjoy these last few weeks of summer and we hope to see you not only in August, but next summer as well!
