In their first game of the Sub-District tournament, that Sleepy Eye hosted, VFW Post 800 played Hutchinson on Friday, July 20.
Hutchinson 2
Sleepy Eye 0
Post 800 got the first-game-jitters out of their system with this game. The boys were a little hesitant at the plate, but it’s best to get that out of the way in the first game.
Carson Domeier was the proud owner of the only hit Post 800 had during the game. The boys got walked here and there, but none of them seemed to step a foot further than second base.
Hutchinson didn’t do anything crazy on the offensive side either. They scored their two runs in the third and fourth.
Nick Labat had a good outing on the mound, but took the loss for Post 800. He pitched six innings, striking out seven, walking four and giving up four hits and two runs.
At the plate:
Carson Domeier, 1 for 3, two walks.
Henry Scheitel walked once.

Lake Crystal 7
After losing the first game, Post 800 was faced with the daunting challenge of playing out of the losers bracket Saturday morning, for a chance to play the winner of game four.
With the nerve blemishes lanced, Post 800 came out swinging. They were kindled by Nick Labat who led off with a single; they scored two runs in the first and then added an additional three in the second.
Lake Crystal scored the majority of their runs in the second and third innings, with a fusillade of singles, but never spied anything but Post 800’s ankles.
With Ethan Fischer on third and Labat on second, Henry Scheitel came up to bat and popped a double to mid-field that brought both boys home. Lake Crystal tried to mount a comeback, but ran out time and gas in the seventh. Score 8-7.
Kyle Goblirsch and Spencer Hoffman pitched for Post 800. Goblirsch pitched two and a half innings, striking out two and giving up five hits and three runs. Hoffman pitched four and a half innings, striking out two and giving up three hits and a run.
At the plate:
Henry Scheitel, 3 for 4, with 5 RBIs.

Hutchinson 5
With some daylight and the team that beat them in the first game ahead of them, Post 800 fed Hutch some spoonfuls of revenge Saturday afternoon and proved they were the hungrier team.
Post 800 beat the life out of the ball with eight runs scored in the first two innings and two more in the fourth. Hutch couldn’t score a run until the fifth, and by then they were pretty green in the gills as Post 800 had a more than comfortable lead.
Post 800 would salt the wound with another four runs—two in the sixth and two more in the seventh—including a double by Nick Labat and a triple by Henry Scheitel. Score 14-5.
Matthew Sellner slung the rock over six innings for Post 800. He struck out three and gave up seven hits and three runs.
At the plate:
Matthew Sellner, 1 for 5, with 2 RBIs.
Nick Labat, 2 for 4, two doubles, with an RBI.
Henry Scheitel, 2 for 4 and a triple.
Jackson Huiras, 1 for 2, with 2 RBIs.
New Ulm Gold 12

The pitching for NU Gold was lights out and Post 800 never found a rhythm offensively. They scored their two runs in the third and fourth.
NU Gold let a steady trickle of runs fuel their win, scoring almost every inning. Post 800 fell a game short of being the winner of the Northwest Sub-Districts.
Kadon Strong, Spencer Hoffmann, and Ethan Fischer all pitched for Post 800. Strong pitched two innings, striking out one and giving up four hits, four runs. Hoffmann also pitched two innings, giving up three hits and two runs. Fischer closed out the game, struck out one and gave up five hits and three runs.
