In late June, Schwartz Farms partnered with the Sleepy Eye FFA to host a career exploration event. During the day, FFA members met with CEO John Schwartz, interviewed representatives of staff and production functions — including project management, operations, feed, warehouse, transportation, IT and human resources, to name a few. They also participated in a cooking demonstration. Did you know your pork chop will look and taste different when cooked to the USDA recommendation of 145 degrees with a 3 minute rest versus 165 degrees?

FFA members also had an opportunity to interact with SFI’s summer interns and emerging leads. The highlight of the day centered around touring the Huiras farrowing facility, where participants experienced firsthand biosecurity and production protocols.

Sleepy Eye’s FFA chapter has over thirty summer events from which members can chose to participate towards their All-Star Award and State FFA Degree requirements. Schwartz Farms and Sleepy Eye FFA would like to thank all community members who came out to enjoy the June 14 Music in the Park event. Donations that evening for the Sleepy Eye FFA came to about $350.
