Sleepy Eye’s Legion Post 7 played Mankato American in a double header at Bethany Lutheran College on Wednesday, July 11.

Post 7 started the double header off right by defeating the bigger city guys right away.  
The boys scored two runs in the first inning—with Zach Haala and Carter Brinkman scoring runs. Brinkman doubled and brought in Haala; Avery Stevens got the RBI for Brinkman.
Post 7 then went scoreless until the fifth inning when Brinkman scored again—this time Luke Mielke got the RBI.
Stevens got the win on the mound for Post 7. He would limit Mankato to five hits and one run, while striking out eight.

The boys couldn’t repeat their previous performance, as they lost game two by three.
They again started the first inning off well, with Haala and Brinkman scoring. Kyle Domeier and Palmer Hittesdorf added two more runs in the second. Then Brinkman crushed a triple, and scored, along with John Mathiowetz,  in the third.
Post 7’s last two runs came in the fourth inning, as Haala and Hittesdorf each scored again.
Dominic Helget was on the mound for Post 7 most of the game. Helget gave up seven hits and five runs, while striking out two. Dallas Bauer took the loss for Post 7.
Brinkman shined from the plate again in the second game, going 4 for 4 with 4 RBIs. Andrick Sanchez went 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Hittesdorf went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Post 7 played Redwood Falls on Monday night, July 16.

The boys battled back again and again, as they played Redwood. They found themselves down far too frequently and were constantly working from behind. But each time they dug their way out of it.
Kyle Domeier and Zach Haala split pitching responsibilities on the night.
