The Sleepy Eye United golfers played their second, and final round of the Section 2A Tournament on Monday, June 4 at North Links in Mankato and the boys team took the Section Championship — for a trip to the State Tournament.

Section finalists:

SEU 650

MCW 700

Madelia 701

Cathedral 715

The boys kept up their winning ways on Monday. They were ahead of the next closest team, that being MCW, by at least 50 strokes. With this win in the Section 2A Tournament they qualified for their third consecutive trip to state.

Ben Laffen led the way with a stroke count of 76 for the day, Andrew Neid followed with 79. Logan Netzke came next with 81, Parker Landkammer came after him with 92, and Toby Weiss and Thor Weiss tied with 93.

Ashtyn Tauer finished her two rounds with a score of 220, and that score put her just outside the qualifying ring. She finished an outstanding individual season, but came up just short.

The boys play in the State Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 12 and 13, at Pebble Creek in Becker. They play a practice round on Monday and tee off in their first tournament round at noon on Tuesday.

Coach Crystal Ibberson said the entire team will be there competing. “They can place as a team and also have an opportunity to place as individuals,” said Ibberson.
