Once again Sleepy Eye United boys golfers are Conference Champs. Crystal Ibberson named Tomahawk Conference Coach of the Year.

The Sleepy Eye United boys’ golf team once again were combated by rainy conditions during the third, and final Tomahawk Conference Meet on May 14. Sleepy Eye United won the meet at the Mayflower, capping the conference meets with a hat-trick of victories and are conference champs. Ben Laffen was medalist with 73.

“The boys did not play to their potential and struggled a little,” says Gent, “but still scraped by to be conference champions again!” Ben Laffen agreed with his coach saying, “We all have to cut strokes somewhere. We’ve all got work to do yet.”

Thursday, May 10, Sleepy Eye had a home meet and took second out of the four teams that participated, narrowly losing by four strokes to Springfield.

“It has been a long time since our boys have even lost a meet so that’s tough,” said Ibberson, “but learning from it and fighting back is what’s important.”
