Boys golf team on a roll!
The Sleepy Eye United golf team started the weather-delayed season on a cool windy day at Oakdale Golf Club Thursday, April 26. The boys came home with first place in the five-team meet, hosted by Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart.

Sleepy Eye’s Ben Laffen won medalist honors with a 38, followed by Mason Kretsch of Springfield with 42. For Sleepy Eye, Andrew Neid shot 44, Josh Nelson 46 and Parker Landkammer had 47 to complete the team score. Thor Weiss shot 48 and Logan Netzke had 51.
Sleepy Eye did not enter a full girls team, but Ashtyn Tauer had a good outing, scoring a 49—tying for third place.
“I am proud of how all of them did, especially since it was our first meet and we first got outside on the driving range a few days prior,” said Coach Crystal Ibberson. “We saw higher scores than normal for several players all around, but I’m excited to see what the next few weeks brings and I’m confident the scores will be very competitive.”

St. Peter 185
Monday, April 30, Sleepy Eye United golfers hosted St. Peter for a non-conference meet and the local boys won again.
“The boys did well, even though a few struggled and came in with higher scores than normal,” said Ibberson. “Ben Laffen was medalist with a 35 and Logan Netzke carded a 38 which helped a lot to keep our score lower. The JV boys also did very well for their first meet and I am excited to see what the future holds for them!”
Ibberson said Sleepy Eye has an incomplete score for girls, with only one varsity player—Ashtyn Tauer, who carded a 52. “Although the other girls had higher scores, it was their first ever meet and first time playing nine holes. I am confident they will start to see better scores in the future as they gain more experience,” she said.
