Speech season continues - high school team snowed out, junior high brings home trophy.
The River Valley Speech team was all set to participate at the Adrian Dragons tourney this past weekend, however, due to the weather forecast the tourney was canceled. The team had a weekend off and used the extra time to polish speeches and make revisions for Saturday, March 3, when they travel to Fairmont for the Cardinals tournament.
Luckily, the junior high speakers were able to beat the storm and participate at the Tracy junior high tournament on Thursday, Feb. 22. Libby Tonn, extemporaneous speaking, and Kendall Kelly, poetry, were first place champions in their categories. Sarah Kottke and Layla Schwarzrock were both second place runner ups in their categories of humorous and poetry, respectively. Receiving fifth place in their categories were John Ombaye in drama, Kaylynn Sanderville in creative expression and Maddie McCone in great speeches. Joseph Jensen was one point out from placing in creative expression and received a blue ribbon. Annie Holles participated in extemporaneous reading and Jaden Oglesby participated in prose. Overall, the team took first place in the small team division. Based on the talent and success of the junior high speakers, the future of the River Valley Speech team looks bright. The junior high team travels to Tyler, Feb. 27 for the RTR junior high tourney.
The River Valley Speech team is made up of students from Springfield and Sleepy Eye High Schools.
