FFA members competed in several Career Development Events (CDEs) at the SMSU Ag. Bowl on Feb. 16 in Marshall.

Sleepy Eye FFA chapter members competed in several Career Development Events (CDEs) at the SMSU Ag. Bowl on Feb. 16 in Marshall, including: Small Animals, Fish & Wildlife, Milk Quality and Best Informed Greenhand (BIG).

The Small Animals team placing second overall. Members of the Small Animals winning team included: Kelsie Domeier - fifth individual, Isaac Huiras - seventh individual, Morgan Hoffmann, Cassidy Hoffmann and Presley Bauer. Due to high interest in this contest area, there was also a Small Animals JV team that competed and placed 12th. Members of the team included: Crystal Hecht, Jorden Niebuhr and Miah Brown.

The Small Animals team members were tested on their knowledge of common pets, pet health and animal anatomy. An identification of different species including: dogs, cats, birds, fish, parasites and rabbits is also a large part of the contest. The Small Animals team is ready to take on state and has high hopes for the competition.

For the Best Informed Greenhand competition, team members participated in a written test to show their knowledge of FFA facts, parliamentary procedure, history, and important people in FFA. They placed first at the SMSU Ag. Bowl. Members of the team included: Trey Heiderscheidt - second individual, Alyssa Romberg - fourth individual, McKenna Dockter - fifth individual, Trisha Ludewig, Morgan Klein and Tasha Martinez.

The Fish & Wildlife contest consists of three parts—identification: mammals, fish, birds, insects, reptiles/amphibians; a knowledge test; and a team activity on invasive species. The team placed fourth overall and the members included: Landon Strong - 10th individual, Kadon Strong, Matthew Sellner, Logan Mickelson and Jake Price.

The Milk Quality team placed second at the Ag. Bowl. The contest consists of identifying flavor defects in milk, CMT testing, milk fat identification, cheese identification and characteristics, and a knowledge test. Team members include: Paige Romberg - third individual, Trey Heiderscheidt - fifth individual and Leslie Martinez - 11th individual.

The Region VI Contest was held at the same time. The results were as follows:

Fish & Wildlife also had a successful day, placing first. The members include: Landon Strong - third individual, Kadon Strong - fifth individual, Matthew Sellner - sixth individual, Logan Mickelson, Jake Price and Jacob Schultz.

The Best Informed Greenhand team placed first at regions. The members include: Trey Heiderscheidt - second individual, Alyssa Romberg - fourth individual, McKenna Dockter - fifth individual, Trisha Ludewig, Morgan Klein and Tasha Martinez.

Sleepy Eye FFA is proud to have these CDE teams qualify for state competition, which will take place at the annual Minnesota State FFA Convention in April.
