Local high school students earned special recognition after being selected to represent their high school in state award programs.
Sleepy Eye High School’s Triple “A” Award nominees, Isaac Nelson and Courtney Dittbenner, were chosen as the Region 2A, subsection 7 award winners. The Minnesota State High School League’s Triple “A” Award recognizes and honors high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the fine arts. Isaac and Courtney are pictured at school, after they returned from their interviews with the Region 2A Selection Committee in Mankato last Wednesday. Neither was chosen to represent the region, but had a good experience.
St. Mary's High School’s ExCEL Award nominees, John Luu Mathiowetz and Gabby Helget, were recently notified they are among 36 Minnesota high school juniors chosen as 2018 ExCEL Award recipients. ExCEL (Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership) is a Minnesota State High School League recognition program designed for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, who show leadership qualities, and who work voluntarily in their community. John and Gabby, along with the other ExCEL winners, will be recognized on KSTC-TV (Channel 45) during the broadcasts of the 2018 winter tournaments.
