Letter to the editor about Sleepy Eye's Let's Go Fishing group re-organizing with a new name.

Dear Sleepy Eye “Let’s Go Fishing” volunteers and community supporters:

Our local chapter of “Let’s Go Fishing” officially dissolved Jan. 31, 2018 with “Let’s Go Fishing” of MN. After discussion with program volunteers and Sportsmen’s Club representatives, a final vote and notification of our Chapter’s termination was given to “Let’s Go Fishing” of MN.

Our interim Board of Directors reestablished our pontoon program under the umbrella of the Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Club and its 501-c-3 nonprofit status.

Interim Board Members have committed to continuing Sleepy Eye’s pontoon excursions under the new community-based program called Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Boating & Bobbers. A new wheelchair accessible, 25 foot pontoon, motor and trailer are ordered from TMC, INC located in Poskin, Wis. This $31,535 expenditure has an anticipated delivery date in time for an early June pontoon opener.

Your involvement is needed, now more than ever, as we prepare for the upcoming 2018 season and bring our community’s pontoon home. Please consider supporting Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Boating & Bobbers as a pontoon Captain or Captain’s mate, accepting a position on the new Board of Directors, and/or providing a monetary donation.

Let’s continue to build upon our community’s 12-year foundation of providing free pontoon and fishing experiences to seniors, veterans, people with special needs and youth with Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Boating & Bobbers.

Please contact us with any questions and we look forward to seeing you on Sleepy Eye Lake!

Sincerely,

Dave Theneman

Interim Vice President

(From the Editor: The local organization’s decision to leave “Let’s Go Fishing” is due to financial difficulties at the state organization level.)
