The Knights were 8-1 going into the game against the Cyclones. The first half showed why, as they pelted up a lead kicked off by Sydney Windschitl and Jody Hansen. Mallory Helget came through with two three-pointers for her team in the first half and Cassie Heinrichs also found the hoop for two three-pointers, as well as a field goal. Madison Mathiowetz shot three of four free throws at the end of the first half and Windschitl sank a field goal for the 10-point half time lead, 31-21.

The second half came down to the free throws, with St. Mary’s sinking 13 to St. Clair’s eight.

“We were able to open a 10-point lead in the first half,” Coach Bruce Woitas said. “We played great on the defensive side again and moved the ball well on offense, which gave everyone good shots.”

Helget got another three-pointer early in the second and Hansen contributed six free throws in the second half as well.

“We played a very good team in St. Clair and got a great team win,” Woitas said.

The Knights are 9-1 overall now; 4-1 in the conference.

The Knights travel to play Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m.
