When the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter held its annual Crops Show/Greenhand/Parents Night Program on Nov. 13, junior high members also competed in the crop show.

The purpose of the crop show is to exhibit a sample of a crop that will be judged on appearance: uniform color and size as well as having no defects or unwanted debris. Making a crop sample for the show involves a lot of patience and attention to detail. More time spent preparing a crop sample, leads to more success in the end.

The 2017 Junior High Champions for each of the crops divisions included:

Soybeans, Kyle Wersal; Wheat, Jade Sellner; Shelled Corn, Carmen Lendt; Oats, Carmen Lendt; Other Silage, Logan Mickelson.

The Junior High Crops Show Champion was Logan Mickelson and Reserve Champion was Morgan Hoffmann.

The other junior high members placing in the Top Ten, in order, are: Carmen Lendt, Adam Johnson, Tatianna Rudolph, Vanessa Konopka, Trey Heiderscheidt, Jade Sellner, Jacob Schultz and Jackson Huiras.

The Junior Officer Team was also introduced at the Crop Show event. They include President Trey Heiderscheidt, Vice President Morgan Hoffmann, Secretary McKenna Dockter, and Officer-at-Large Presley Bauer.

The 2017 FFA Crop Show was a huge success due to the involvement of the community including donating crops, judging the crops, and attending the event.
