The New Ulm Eagles girls hockey team are off to a good start, with a season opening win, on home ice, over the Mound Westonka White Hawks on Saturday, Nov. 11 on.

The New Ulm Eagles girls hockey team are off to a good start, with a season opening win, on home ice, over the Mound Westonka White Hawks on Saturday, Nov. 11 on.

Both teams had a shaky open, this being their first game of the season. The White Hawks managed to score on Eagles goalie Cassie Reed to take the lead in the first period. Later in the period, Mound lost a player to a penalty and Eagles Alexa Steffl and Dani Weiss made the power play, to tie the period 1-1.

Mound scored the only goal in the second period, taking back the lead.

The Eagles made their comeback in the third period with two power plays. Molly Scheid scored the first of two goals in the period, assisted by Jackie Cowing and Ali Beltz. Weiss made the second power play goal, Ally Steffensmeier got the assist.

Faribault 4

The Eagles kept the train rolling, hosting the Faribault Falcons Tuesday, Nov. 14.

In spite of a shaky start, the Eagles took the first goal of the night, thanks to Beltz, with Steffl on the assist. The Eagles struggled with passing in the first period and the Falcons took advantage of this, scoring two goals and taking the lead.

In the second period, the Falcons took advantage of a penalty and scored again.
