The Sleepy Eye Fire Department invited the community to the fire station on Wednesday evening, Oct. 11, for their every-other-year Fire Prevention Week Open House. Guests were treated to supper and were able to tour the building. Pictured, left, Shaun Heiderscheidt—in charge of fire station maintenance—and fellow firefighters Scott Krzmarzick and Jesse Fischer, stand by an antique wheeled fire extinguisher they recently restored and placed in the front lobby of the station. The piece was given to the fire department by Del Monte years ago, at the request of then firefighter and Del Monte employee, Chuck Windschitl. Above right, firefighters taught how to use fire extinguishers and the girl in the picture put the fire out quicker than the camera could catch the flames. Lower right, Greg Gangelhoff of Stark Farmers Insurance and Fire Chief Ron Zinniel display the calendar that Stark Farmers has supplied to local businesses for the past 20 years. The calendar, produced at Bic Graphic, runs from October to September each year to highlight Fire Prevention Week.
