In keeping with a yearly weather tradition, the Knights Cross Country team hosted a home meet at the Sleepy Eye Golf Course on a rainy day—Thursday, Oct. 5. Six more schools competed the meet including: Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet, Wabasso, Norwood-Young America, Minnesota Valley Lutheran, Sibley East and Mankato Loyola/Cleveland.

The Knights’ girls team got off to a good start, with four runners placing in the front of the pack. Out of 69 runners, Brianna Polesky finished in third place with a time of 20:09. Abby Hagen was hot on her trail in fifth place at 21:13. “It’s nice to have a home meet and see the community out supporting us,” Polesky said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how we do at sections.” In the middle of the group, Kira DeMaris came in at 24:08 followed by Clarissa Simonsen with 24:10.

The boys team had a rougher go with 80 runners competing. Isaac Nelson led the boys, placing 15th with a time of 18:36. “When I run I focus on the guy right in front of me,” said Nelson. “Our motto is have fun and don’t get last.” Ethan Kirchberg ran the course in 19:55.

The Knights will run in the Madelia Meet on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
