The Sleepy Eye FFA members of the month for September are Presley Bauer, Martina Nienhaus, Rene Villarreal and Maranda Braulick.
Presley Bauer is an eighth grader at Sleepy Eye High School and has been in the FFA for two years. Presley joined FFA because she wanted to experience new things and open up new opportunities. Presley is on the Small Animals CDE team because she likes how well her team gets along and how much enjoyment they have together as a group. Her favorite things to do in FFA are the various fun after school activities FFA has to offer.
Presley is looking forward to meeting new people and trying a new CDE team. While being in an Ag class, Presley has learned to be patient, stay focused and pay close attention to detail. Presley’s achievements and awards she is most proud of are being Tagged to Teach Ag, being a Summer All Star, and receiving member of the month.
Martina Nienhaus is a sophomore at Sleepy Eye High School and has been involved in the FFA for four years. Martina joined FFA because it is a big part of her family. She is on the Poultry CDE team and enjoys judging eggs. One of Martina’s favorite FFA activities is State Convention.
Something Martina would like to work toward is having their Poultry team advance to Nationals in the future. Martina has learned many things through FFA, such as improving her leadership skills and teaching others about agriculture and safety on the farm. Martina's awards she is most proud of include getting a leadership award and receiving third place team at state when she was on the BIG (Best Informed Greenhand) team.
Rene Villarreal is a senior at Sleepy Eye High School and has been in the FFA for one and a half years. Rene joined FFA because he wanted to learn new and interesting things. In FFA, he enjoys helping out with whatever activities he can, such as concessions and the safety day camp. His favorite activity in Ag class is welding.
Rene maybe wants to try farming one day and feels FFA is a good way to learn about it. In FFA, Rene has learned that teamwork is very important. He is very proud of his member of the month award.
Maranda Braulick is a sophomore at Sleepy Eye High School and this is her fourth year in FFA. Maranda joined FFA because her brother and sister were both in FFA and they really enjoyed it, so she knew she would love it. She also joined to build her leadership skills. She is on the Meats CDE team because she enjoys learning about all the different cuts of meat. Whenever she goes in a grocery store, she likes to go look at the meat and see which one is the best. Maranda's favorite FFA activity is the summer Ag tour.
Maranda is looking forward to meeting new people at different workshops and learning where they are from and what they are involved in. She has learned a lot about FFA, such as all the different CDE teams, different types of animals, and the types of qualities it takes to be a great leader. The award that Maranda is most proud of is getting third place BIG team at state.
