It's a musical revue—showcasing a number of popular and long standing songs of Broadway.
This fall’s musical production at Sleepy Eye High School is a new format for the student performers, and likely for some audience members also. Director Sandy Brinkman said their show, “Best of Broadway,” is a celebration of all things Broadway.
Some of the songs featured in the production are: “In My Own Little Corner” from “Cinderella,” “I Know it’s Today” from “Shrek, the Musical,” “Maria” from “West Side Story,” a medley from “Grease,” “For Good” from “Wicked” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from “Hairspray.”
“We have a tremendous amount of musical talent that will be showcased in this production,” said Brinkman. “They have worked extremely hard to put this show together, under some pretty crazy and hectic schedules.”
Over 25 students are involved in the musical revue. “One of the most enjoyable and exciting parts of the rehearsal and preparation process was watching students that have never been involved in a stage production before, really shine,” Brinkman said. “Those rookies, combined with our seasoned veterans, make for one great show.”
Brinkman is pleased with the production’s new format. “It is always a goal to educate along with entertain,” she explained. “I am hoping the audience will gain as much knowledge and appreciation for Broadway as the cast and crew members have.”
The intermission will include a pie and coffee social, offered by the Friends of SEPS, as a fundraiser for their organization which supports student activities in the school.
Performances of “Best of Broadway” are Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door one hour prior to curtain.
