St. Mary’s fell in the first set with errors and placement costing them some scoring opportunities. If there’s one thing the Knights know how to do it’s make a comeback, and that is exactly what they did. Ali Beltz re-energized the offense with eight kills in the second set.

In the third set the Knights played a strong defensive game with Dani Weiss leading with nine digs—the Knights completed 26 as a team.

The Thunderbirds put up a fight in the fourth set but the Knights took the lead in the end for a three point win. Jody Hansen was everywhere, getting five kills, 42 set assists, 17 digs and an ace. Weiss led the defense with 33 digs, followed by Sarah Reinarts and Beltz with 17 digs each.

Wabasso 3

(25-21, 25-16, 25-14)

The Knights hosted the Wabasso Rabbits on Tuesday, Oct. 3. The Rabbits had a 11-2 season before coming to St. Mary’s and the Knights were in for a rough night. “They have some great hitters,” said coach Jen Walter. “We struggled on our serves tonight.”

While the Knights put up a good fight, errors in the end cost them the first set. Then the Rabbits made short work of the Knights in sets two and three.

Weiss got 18 digs and Reinarts had 10. Hansen got 10 set assists and one kill.

The Knights host the Springfield Tigers on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
