The Knights, St. Mary’s-Sleepy Eye-Cathedral, competed at the world's largest high school cross country meet on Saturday, Sept. 23 in Milaca.

Milaca Mega Meet

Over 4,900 runners competed in 16 races with roughly 150 schools represented on Saturday. The Knights top finisher was Brianna Polesky, who placed 15th, out of 166 runners in the Varsity Class 2A division.

“This meet was a great experience for our runners to compete in an atmosphere that has the feel of a state meet,” said Coach Scott DeMaris.

Finishing times for the Knights’ girls:

Brianna Polesky - 21:36.148

Abby Hagen - 22:20.301

Kira DeMaris - 25:40.879

Clarissa Simonsen - 26:57.531

Hali Soukup - 30:51.789

St. James Meet

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, the Knights traveled to St. James to compete in a nine-school meet.

The girls placed fourth of nine teams. Polesky placed eighth with 21:04 followed by Abby Hagen with 21:34. Kira DeMaris got 24:34 and Clarissa Simonsen got 24:46. “We ran well considering we just raced three days ago,” said Coach DeMaris. “Clarissa Simonsen had a very good race as she continues to close the gap on our number three runner.”

The boys team finished eighth. Isaac Nelson led the Knights with an 18:50 followed by Ethan Kirchberg with 20:11. “It was good to have Isaac Nelson back in the lineup. He was a bit rusty, but had a solid race,” said DeMaris. “Nate Fliszar is showing great improvement as he cut at least a minute off of his best time.”

The Knights will host a meet on the Sleepy Eye golf course on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m.
