Light rain showers accompanied those who gathered for the Brown County Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program’s Walk of Hope at Allison Park on Saturday morning, Sept. 16. Attendees came to support survivors of suicide, honor loved ones who died by suicide, and promote mental health awareness. While walking around the Sleepy Eye Lake bike trail, participants released into the sky yellow balloons inscribed with personalized messages of hope.

Following the walk, the Brown County Yellow Ribbon Program provided lunch and sold t-shirts in one of the park’s shelters.

In addition to the Walk of Hope, the Brown County Yellow Ribbon Program also offers a support group called SOS (Survivors of Suicide) for those grieving a loss to suicide. Professional staff and community members may also undergo free training through the Brown County Yellow Ribbon Program to learn how to help prevent suicides in work and/or family environments.
