On Saturday, Sept. 16, family and friends of Kristin Ann Gluth gathered for the ninth annual bike and car run in her memory. Family members said Kristin—known for her carefree spirit, sense of adventure, generous heart, hot pick hair, sparkling eyes and beautiful smile—was loved by those who met her. Kristin enjoyed volunteering and working at the Sleepy Eye Arena. She loved teaching children to skate and driving the zamboni. Kristin was killed in a motorcycle accident near Avon on Sept. 21, 2008.
Called “Riding for the Love of Kristin Ann,” the annual ride is a fundraiser with proceeds donated to various causes. Kristin was a hairstylist (a graduate of Mankato Cosmetology Training Center) so proceeds from 2009 to 2012 were used for scholarships for local students pursuing a cosmetology career. In 2013, donations were made to the Avon First Responders and the Sleepy Eye Medical Center; the 2014 donations went to the Sleepy Eye and Springfield Fire Departments; the 2015 donations were made to the Sleepy Eye and Springfield Ambulance services, and to the Ben Mathiowetz Benefit; in 2016 the donation was made to the 3D mammography project at the New Ulm Medical Center. This year, organizers decided to donate the proceeds of the event to Sleepy Eye’s Holiday Lights in Motion project.
Funds are raised through monetary donations, rider registration fees and a raffle and live auction of donated items.
