The Sleepy Eye Indians volleyball team hit the road for their season opener against the Jaguars of Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman on Thursday, Aug. 24.

(25-12, 22-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-13)

The Indians had a rough open in the first set, losing 25-12 to the Jaguars. In the second and third sets the Indians found a good pace, pulling ahead by three and five points to win. The Jaguars fought back hard in the fourth and managed to win to tie up the game.

In the tie breaker, the Jaguars pulled off a two-point lead to take the game. Mya Ibberson led the Indians on offense with 20 kills and 11 blocks. Mariah Miller led the defense with 13 digs, while getting six kills and three aces. Cassidy Hoffman completed 24 set assists and eight blocks.

The Indians were scheduled to face off against the Mankato Loyola Crusaders on Tuesday, Aug. 29, but the game was canceled by Loyola.

The Indians host St. Mary’s after the Labor Day break on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.
