The Post 800 VFW baseball team hit the road on Thursday, July 27 to take on Wells in game one of the District playoffs at Franklin Rogers Park in Mankato.

Wells 5

Sleepy Eye 2

Wells grabbed the game in the bottom of the first with two runs. They widened the deficit in the third and fourth, with a run in each inning for a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth Sleepy Eye made a push with two runs. Ethan Fischer (2-3) and John Luu Mathiowetz (1-3) got base hits. Landon Strong (1-4, 2 RBI) rocked a line drive past the shortstop for a double and Fischer and Mathiowetz scored. The deficit was still high for late in the game and Wells added another run in the bottom of the sixth, ultimately winning the game.

Mankato AAA 12

Sleepy Eye 0

The boys were fighting to stay in the game when they took to the field against Mankato AAA. However, they only managed one hit in the game, while Mankato continued to rack up the points. In the first and second, Mankato scored two runs. In the fourth, Mankato went on a run, scoring seven times. The game ended after Sleepy Eye failed to score in the top of the fifth.

Sleepy Eye Post 800’s season ended on this trip to the District play-offs.
